Rarely do I meet an individual with so much genuine passion for his craft. Of course we all want to make money, but from time to time I meet people for whom this business means so much more. Seif is undoubtedly one of those people, and I will watch his progress with great interest as he builds his scalp micropigmentation business in Miami.
I asked Seif to write a little about his entry to the industry, and his hopes for the future. The following narrative was authored by Seif Sidky, and published by Team Micro with his kind permission.
I first heard about scalp micropigmentation from a radio advertisement, of all things, made by a competitor of Scalp Aesthetics as I was driving one day.
I contacted the company and received a quote that included airfare and accommodation for one night. Like I do with everything, I decided to do some research and see if there were any local options available. I also decided against travelling for my procedure because I did not like the idea of flying to another state for just one treatment, as I was certain I would want follow-ups and touch-ups.
I quickly found out, mostly through Team Micro, that of the 3 major players in the industry, Scalp Aesthetics was the only one without a presence in Miami or the greater South Florida market (Fort Lauderdale, Boca Raton, West Palm Beach), and so the gears in my entrepreneurial mind starting spinning when I read up on the Scalp Aesthetics expansion opportunities available.
I knew immediately I was a perfect candidate for the procedure and would eventually be my own “walking billboard”. When I initially started doing research, like most clients with hair loss problems, I was planning on keeping it discrete, but when I made the decision to enter the business, my outlook changed completely and decided I wouldn’t shut up about it – I am truly living the “Scalpa Life”!
The closest Scalp Aesthetics technician to me at the time was Jose Santiago up in Tampa, FL and it quickly became apparent that he was one of the best in the world. I did not hesitate to book with him, and I decided to start training and receive my treatments from Jose simultaneously. He is an amazing artist and has been a tremendous mentor and influence on me as an artist.
I was well aware that it was only a matter of time before other players would enter the South Florida market, so I made it a point to open my location as soon as possible. Within 2 months of when I first started discussions with Scalp Aesthetics CEO Bryce Cleveland, I opened my doors and have never looked back.
I never thought of myself as an artistic person, so soon after, I hired my first technician, Elliot. I honestly did not see myself as a great micropigmentologist – but to my pleasant surprise, I found myself producing results of which I am extremely proud, and I have thoroughly enjoyed meeting clients and helping change their lives and boosting their confidence. This experience has brought out the “inner artist” in me I suppose, and it feels amazing.
As a consummate student, I found myself studying other technicians’ techniques from both sides of the Atlantic, and I was especially impressed by UK artists and their abilities to construct the perfectly natural-looking hairline. So, I practiced and practiced and practiced until I became very comfortable with the techniques.
This all culminated in receiving the award for Best Natural Hairline at the recent Scalp Micropigmentation Conference, which was a great honor for myself and for Elliot.
While my vision was already lit prior to the event, I must say the conference was like pouring gasoline on my vision – it is now officially on fire! I have plans to open a couple more locations in South Florida and a couple in the Middle East (locations to be disclosed soon)!
More than financial success, I measure the success of my business against my benchmark of a 100% rate of satisfied clients. Elliot and I made a commitment that we will never let a client leave without being 100% satisfied, regardless of whether it is 1 month, 6 month, or a whole year after receiving the procedure. Unlike other places that charge clients a per-session fee, and profit when a client has to keep coming back, our prices are inclusive and the service is guaranteed. I strongly believe in the notion of “quality over quantity”.
