Acquisition of a scar following hair transplant surgery, is an unfortunate inevitability. Contrary to what many may tell you, there is no such thing as a scar-less hair transplant, although it is fair to say that modern procedures tend to cause less severe scarring than they used to.
Many people use scalp micropigmentation to camouflage scars, therefore we are often asked how they can achieve the best results from this process. There are various ways to enhance the final outcome, and one method that has become popular is the use of a Fraxel or Vbeam Perfecta laser.
Would your scar benefit from Vbeam?
Actually most of the time, lasers are not mandatory. Scalp micropigmentation on its own is usually sufficient to achieve a satisfactory concealment on its own. However, for scars that are particularly challenging, Vbeam or Fraxel laser can really help to enhance the final result.
If your scar is raised or indented, or a significantly different texture to the surrounding area, you should consider using a Fraxel laser. VBeam laser is best suited to the treatment of scars that are still colored, long after you might expect any coloration to have gone. Vbeam lasers are very useful because a reduction in the color contrast between the scar and surrounding area, makes the scar much easier to conceal. If the client wants to achieve maximum concealment but the scar is still pink, Vbeam should definitely be considered.
Like most forms of laser therapy, your Vbeam treatment is usually spaced out over a series of sessions. From what I understand, any discomfort is usually minimal. You should wait at least 8 weeks after your last Vbeam session before having your scalp micropigmentation procedure.
When approaching a laser specialist, remember that these treatments were not designed for hair transplant scars. No doubt they are extremely useful for those with scarring issues or for those that have other problems with their scalp skin, but this may be new territory for your specialist who may be more used to using the laser to help with acne scars or hypopigmentation.
