New REACH regulations affecting all scalp micropigmentation artists in the European Union, coming into effect on January 4th 2022. All pigments and inks used for SMP, permanent makeup tattooing must be compliant with the new regulations.
Despite our best efforts to stress the importance of compliance with the new regulations, NONE of the existing scalp micropigmentation brands will be REACH compliant in time to meet the new regulations. Furthermore, it is likely to be a long time until they are compliant, if they ever will be. This means that artists in the European Union who use Alivio, Iccon, 5PM Shadow, Folicule, Ghost or Permablend scalp pigments, must switch brands to one that is compliant or risk a heavy fine, the closure of their clinic or even imprisonment.
Please note the new regulations do not affect SMP artists outside of the EU, and for now, do not affect artists in the UK. However, the UK version of REACH is expected to come into force in the near future.
More information about the new regulations is available here:
When it became clear that none of the leading brands would be compliant, we were concerned that the European scalp micropigmentation industry would be effectively shut down by the new REACH regulations, so we have been in talks with a major pigment manufacturer to address this problem. We are very pleased to announce that Team Micro will have the world’s first and only REACH compliant carbon black scalp micropigmentation pigment. This product is manufactured for Team Micro, and will only be available from Team Micro, our licensed partners and our distributors.
Full details will be released in January, and supplies will be ready to ship in late February or early March. All we can reveal at this stage is that the product is a pure dilutable carbon black so will not discolor, will be sold in 20ml bottles and costs about the same per ml as the existing brands in the market.
Supplies will be extremely limited, so pre-order now to secure your delivery in late February to early March.
